4v4 No Dribble

The "4v4 No Dribble Half Court" drill is an excellent way to develop crucial basketball skills while promoting teamwork, decision-making, and off-ball movement. It's a fun and challenging variation that will keep your players engaged and constantly improving their overall game.

Objectives:

  1. Develop passing and catching skills: Without the ability to dribble, players must rely on effective cutting, accurate passing, and catching to move the ball.
  2. Improve court awareness and decision-making: Players must constantly read the defense and make smart decisions about when to pass, cut, or shoot.
  3. Emphasize off-ball movement: Cutting, screening, and creating open passing lanes become crucial for scoring opportunities.
  4. Promote team play: The no-dribble rule forces players to work together, share the ball, and make team-oriented plays.

Coaching Points:

  1. Encourage players to move without the ball, creating open passing lanes, off-ball screens, and scoring opportunities.
  2. Emphasize the importance of ball fakes, shot fakes, pivoting, and using screens to get open for shots or passes.
  3. Teach players to read the defense and make smart decisions about when to shoot or pass.
  4. Stress the importance of defensive positioning, communication, and help-side defense.

Phase 1
43211234

Setup:

  1. Divide the players into two teams of four players each.
  2. Use only one half of the basketball court (5v5 full court no dribble is a great alternative)

Rules:

  1. No dribbling is allowed. Players must move the ball by passing it to teammates.
  2. The game is played in a half-court setting, with one team on offense and the other on defense.
  3. The offensive team tries to score by making a basket, while the defensive team tries to get the ball back.
  4. If the defensive team gains possession, they immediately become the offensive team, clear the ball past the 3-point line, and try to score.
  5. Players can shoot from anywhere on the court.
  6. Fouls and violations (such as traveling or double dribble) result in a turnover, and the possession goes to the other team.
